Elisabeth et Félix Leseur sont apparemment un couple comme les autres. Ils sont très unis dans le confort de leur vie de notables, leurs voyages, leurs sorties, leur entente intellectuelle, leur culture. Ils s'aiment profondément, malgré ce qui les sépare : Elisabeth est très croyante alors que Félix, proche des hommes politiques des années anticléricales de la France, est athée et profondément hostile à toute forme de religion. Par leurs nombreux écrits rassemblés pour la première fois, Elisabeth et Félix témoignent du surprenant et intelligent parcours de leur couple dont l'amour a grandi malgré les divergences et les souffrances de chacun. Le respect des croyances de l'autre, leur tolérance et leur admiration mutuelle ont fini par les unir. Leur spécificité apparaît dès le jour de leur mariage. Elisabeth, dans le silence et le secret, prie et sème des graines pour le retour à la foi de son époux. Elle n'en récoltera pas les fruits puisqu'elle meurt prématurément d'une maladie incurable qui l'aura fait souffrir toute sa vie. Elle a souvent répété cette parole de l'évangile de saint Jean : «Si le grain ne meurt...» Ce n'est qu'après la mort de son épouse que Félix comprendra combien elle puisait son amour et sa force en Dieu. Après la lecture de ses cahiers, il changera radicalement de vie à la surprise de sa famille et de ses amis. Il se convertira et deviendra père dominicain et prêtre. L'itinéraire étonnant de deux êtres d'exception, un livre limpide, passionnant et très actuel, indispensable au moment où la famille est au centre des débats dans l'Eglise.

Publié sans doute dans les toutes dernières années d’Ambroise, le traité Sur la fuite du siècle est une méditation sur la fuite spirituelle loin du monde terrestre. Cette fuite répond à un idéal, l’aspiration de l’âme à s’élever vers Dieu. Elle emprunte des formes variées, de l’érémitisme au retrait en soi-même, en passant par l’appartenance à une communauté d’ascètes. Le traité d’Ambroise est le premier à aborder un thème spirituel majeur pour l’Occident, dont l’influence sur la vie chrétienne culmine au Moyen Âge dans les traités monastiques sur le « mépris du monde ». Ambroise puise dans des traditions intellectuelles diverses, de la philosophie platonicienne à l’exégèse allégorique du juif Philon d’Alexandrie, pour les refondre à la lumière de l’écriture. Le traité d’Ambroise trouve ici sa première édition critique depuis plus d’un siècle, fondée sur une large base manuscrite qui en renouvelle le texte. C’est aussi la première fois qu’il est traduit en français. Camille Gerzaguet, actuellement pensionnaire de la Fondation Th iers (CNRS) et membre de l’équipe des Sources Chrétiennes, a consacré sa thèse à Ambroise de Milan et à son traité sur La fuite du siècle.

"That the exercise of our intellectual powers in the service of the Gospel can prove life-transforming is a principle that both informs the writings of Thomas Aquinas and, at the same time, marks the horizon of his thought. Yet the contemporary interpretation of Aquinas' thought, with a few notable exceptions, continues to suffer from the modern divorce between systematic theology and spirituality. Even among those studies that link Aquinas' systematic and spiritual purposes, few have asked how Aquinas sets about composing his text in such a way that it orders spiritual operations of memory, affect, imagination, understanding, judgment, and decision to each other and to the purpose of Christian spiritual development. Embracing Wisdom proposes a theological interpretation of the Summa theologiae as a spiritual pedagogy ordered to the growth in wisdom, and thus in holiness, of preachers and confessors in the late thirteenth century. It proceeds along two unequal trajectories. The first proceeds by examining the social and cultural transformations of the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries, and the spiritual crisis they occasioned for the Church, a crisis which called for the creation of a new kind of pastoral agent to take responsibility for the preaching of the Gospel. The analysis that follows develops a picture of the socio-cultural role of the theologian and preacher and brings to light the rhetorical means Aquinas deploys to promote the formation of wise preachers who can mediate the Gospel by means of new cultural forms. Successive chapters then present the pedagogical structure and spiritual dynamic of the Summa theologiae in light of these rhetorical principles, showing how it climaxes in the Christology of the tertia pars. This Christology is shown to promote communion with and conforming of the whole person to Wisdom Incarnate, transforming the student into an agent of Divine Wisdom in the world."--
